Kwesi Pratt Calls Tribal Arguments In Politics Childish And Divisive

Veteran Ghanaian journalist and managing editor of the Insight newspaper, Kwesi Pratt Jnr, has criticised the use of ethnic and tribal arguments in Ghanaian political debates, saying they are childish and harmful to national unity. He urged political leaders and citizens to rise above such tactics and focus on issues that truly matter for the progress of the nation.

Pratt said arguments based on ethnicity or tribe are a distraction from the real challenges facing Ghana and do little to foster unity among its people. He described dividing citizens along lines such as Akan, Ewe, or other identities as irresponsible and said Ghanaians deserve leadership that promotes cohesion rather than division.

In his comments, Pratt also addressed how tribal narratives often influence political discourse and how some leaders use these divisions to score political points. He called on political actors to avoid exploiting cultural differences for political gain and instead work toward policies that benefit all Ghanaians equally.

The journalist’s remarks come amid a backdrop of ongoing debates in the country where tribal affiliations are sometimes highlighted in discussions about leadership choices and elections. Pratt’s stance emphasises the need for a more issue-based political dialogue that moves beyond simplistic appeals to identity.

Pratt’s comments have resonated with many observers who believe that Ghana’s political landscape should prioritise unity, development, and fairness. His call for less divisive rhetoric aims to encourage Ghana’s leaders and citizens to engage in more constructive and inclusive political conversations.
