Unemployed Teachers Raise Alarm Over Alleged Secret GES Recruitment and Appointment Letters From Different Dates Emerge

Unemployed trained teachers in Ghana have publicly expressed serious concerns about what they describe as an alleged clandestine recruitment exercise by the Ghana Education Service (GES). This follows the circulation of multiple appointment letters bearing different dates, which the teachers claim are evidence that recruitment is underway despite no formal announcement from GES.

According to Paul Octhere Karikari, an organiser with the Coalition for Unemployed Trained Teachers, copies of appointment letters dated December 9, December 10, and December 11, 2025, have surfaced. These letters, purportedly issued by the Director-General of GES, include postings to schools in various regions with a reported assumption of duty date of December 23, 2025.

Karikari and others maintain that no official communication regarding a recruitment process has been released by the GES. They allege that some individuals may have been recruited quietly and that appointments could be linked to payments, with claims that certain recruits were asked to pay GH¢25,000 to secure their positions. This, they argue, disadvantages qualified teachers who cannot afford such payments, despite having completed all required training.

One affected teacher, Richard Boakye, voiced his frustration, saying that while he and his peers struggle with unemployment and basic needs, others are sharing appointment letters in WhatsApp groups based on alleged payments. He stressed that appointments should be merit-based and transparent, not influenced by financial capacity.

The coalition has called on the government to intervene, urging that teacher recruitment be conducted openly and fairly. Efforts to obtain a clear response from the GES have not produced an official denial, but sources suggest there may be “some form of selective recruitment” taking place.
