UCC and KNUST Lecturers List Complaints Against GTEC Boss Prof Ahmed Jinapor

Lecturers at the University of Cape Coast and Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology have raised strong concerns about the leadership of the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission Director General Prof Ahmed Abdulai Jinapor. The University Teachers Association of Ghana chapters at both universities say GTEC has failed to protect the quality and integrity of tertiary education.
According to UTAG the commission has focused heavily on enforcing academic title regulations while ignoring more pressing challenges facing public universities. These include poor infrastructure declining staff welfare and limited resources for teaching and research. The lecturers argue that such priorities have weakened the overall tertiary education system.
UTAG members also accuse GTEC leadership of overstepping its mandate by interfering in internal university affairs without adequate consultation. They believe this approach undermines institutional autonomy and creates unnecessary tension between regulators and academic staff.
The association has joined national calls for Prof Jinapor and his deputy to resign stating that confidence in GTEC’s current leadership has been lost. UTAG warned that failure to address these concerns could lead to further action to protect the interests of lecturers and students across the country
