President Mahama Appoints Baba Sadiq As Ghana’s High Commissioner To Nigeria

President John Dramani Mahama has appointed Baba Sadiq Abdulai Abu as Ghana’s High Commissioner-designate to the Federal Republic of Nigeria, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has announced. The decision was made public on March 1, 2026, as part of diplomatic changes aimed at strengthening bilateral relations between Ghana and its key West African partner.
Baba Sadiq, a well-known creative entrepreneur and media executive, will take up one of Ghana’s most significant diplomatic roles once he completes the necessary accreditation process in Abuja. His new position comes after the recall of the previous High Commissioner, reflecting a recalibration of Ghana’s diplomatic engagement with Nigeria.
Before his nomination, Sadiq made his mark in Ghana’s media scene, founding 3 Media Networks Limited, the organisation behind the influential 3Music Awards and other entertainment initiatives that helped shape the country’s urban music and media landscape. His career also spans leadership roles in digital media and strategic communications across the continent.
As High Commissioner-designate, he will be responsible for managing Ghana’s diplomatic mission in Nigeria, deepening cooperation on issues such as trade, investment, regional security and migration, and providing consular services to Ghanaians living in the neighbouring country. His mandate includes promoting stronger political and economic ties between Accra and Abuja, two of West Africa’s leading capitals.
The appointment underscores Ghana’s commitment to maintaining robust relations with Nigeria, one of its closest partners within the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) and the region’s largest economy.
