Russian Ambassador Addresses Secret Filming Controversy Involving Ghanaian Women

The Government of Ghana has formally summoned the Russian Ambassador to Accra, Sergei Berdnikov, to respond to growing concerns over reports that a foreign national allegedly engaged in the secret filming of intimate encounters with multiple Ghanaian women and posted the material online without their consent.

The situation has attracted significant public attention and outrage both online and in traditional media, following viral content purporting to show private, non-consensual recordings of Ghanaian women. Ghanaian authorities have labelled the actions as a serious breach of privacy and digital rights.

In a diplomatic communication, the Russian Embassy in Ghana acknowledged that it has taken note of the media reports regarding the alleged involvement of an individual described as a foreign citizen in the recordings of women without their permission. However, the Embassy did not formally confirm the person’s identity or nationality in its statement.

Officials said the Embassy is monitoring developments closely but has not yet confirmed whether it has begun direct engagement with Ghanaian security agencies. The statement emphasised the gravity of the situation and the need for cooperation between both countries as the investigation continues.

Domestic response has involved several state agencies, including the Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection, which has condemned the alleged acts as violations of women’s rights and dignity. Advocacy groups have also mobilised to provide support to the affected women and are pushing for justice.

The Minister for Communication, Digital Technology and Innovations, along with security and cybercrime units, are reportedly coordinating efforts to address the digital privacy breach under Ghana’s Cybersecurity Act, which criminalises the non-consensual recording and sharing of intimate content.

The case highlights broader concerns about digital privacy, exploitation and the protection of personal data in an increasingly connected world.
