Rev. Wengam Urges Public Officials Not To Compromise The Truth In Duty

Rev. Stephen Yenusom Wengam, General Superintendent of the Assemblies of God, Ghana, has appealed to Christian public servants to uphold integrity and truth in their official responsibilities, especially those in high positions such as the Clerk of Parliament. Speaking during a thanksgiving service marking the appointment of the new Clerk to Parliament, Rev. Wengam told worshippers that honesty and moral courage are essential values for all who serve the public.
During the ceremony, Rev. Wengam warned Christian civil servants against yielding to pressure or compromising moral principles for personal gain or political convenience. He emphasized that truthfulness should guide every decision, particularly in leadership roles where actions affect national governance and public trust.
The thanksgiving event also featured prayers and blessings for Ebenezer Ahumah Djietror, the newly appointed Clerk of Parliament, as clergy and congregants prayed for wisdom and strength for him in his duties. Rev. Wengam expressed the hope that the appointee and other officials will uphold high standards of ethical conduct throughout their service.
His charge to the Clerk of Parliament reflects broader calls from religious and civil society leaders for greater accountability and honesty among public servants in Ghana. Many observers say such guidance reinforces the expectations Ghanaians have for leaders to act in the nation’s best interest rather than compromising core values for short-term advantages.
