President Mahama To Address Zambian National Assembly During State Visit

President John Dramani Mahama has left Ghana for Lusaka, Zambia, where he will undertake a three-day state visit from 4 to 6 February 2026 at the invitation of Zambian President Hakainde Hichilema. A major highlight of the visit will be Mahama’s address to the National Assembly of Zambia, part of efforts to strengthen diplomatic ties and promote cooperation between the two African nations.
Mahama, who is accompanied by his wife, First Lady Lordina Mahama, departed Ghana after first travelling to Dubai, United Arab Emirates, to participate in the World Governments Summit 2026 on a special aircraft provided by the ruler of the UAE. Following the summit, he and his delegation continued on to Zambia to begin the state visit.
During his address to Zambia’s Parliament, Mahama is expected to outline Ghana’s vision for a more integrated and prosperous Africa, with a focus on enhancing regional cooperation, promoting trade, and expanding economic opportunities under frameworks such as the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA). His speech is also anticipated to emphasise the importance of stronger continental unity and deeper political and economic collaboration among African states.
In addition to the National Assembly address, the visit will include bilateral talks between Mahama and President Hichilema, during which both leaders will discuss ways to bolster diplomatic relations, boost investment cooperation and build stronger economic links. The state visit also features a Ghana–Zambia Business Dialogue, co-chaired by both presidents, aimed at enhancing trade and showcasing Ghana’s strengths in areas such as digital technology and financial innovation.
President Mahama is also scheduled to meet with members of the Ghanaian community in Zambia, engaging Ghanaian nationals who are living and working in Lusaka. This interaction highlights the administration’s interest in supporting the welfare of Ghanaians abroad while strengthening people-to-people ties between the two countries.
