Police shoot dead notorious highway robber

The Ghana Police Service has shot and killed a suspected member of a well-known highway robbery gang that had been carrying out armed attacks on motorists and travellers along major roads. The incident occurred during an operation to apprehend the suspect, who was believed to be part of a criminal group terrorising drivers and stealing from road users.

Police officers engaged the suspect after tracking him down in a targeted action, according to information shared by security sources. During the encounter, the robber resisted arrest and a confrontation followed, in which the police shot him.

Two other individuals linked to the robbery activities were arrested during the operation. They are now assisting police with investigations into the gang’s prior attacks and the extent of its criminal network.

The Ghana Police Service has in recent months intensified efforts against armed robbery gangs operating on highways and rural routes in the country. Several suspects believed to be involved in similar crimes have been arrested as part of a broader crackdown on violent robberies affecting commuters and communities.

Authorities continue to appeal to motorists and members of the public to report suspicious activities and share information that could lead to the arrest of other suspects still at large.
