Police Intercept Large Drug Shipment, Refuse GH¢80,000 Bribe, Seven Arrested

The Ghana Police Service has intercepted a substantial narcotics smuggling operation in the Oti Region, seizing hundreds of packets of substances suspected to be illegal drugs and arresting seven individuals in connection with the case.

According to an official statement from the Oti Regional Police Command, officers conducted three separate intelligence-led operations between February 13 and February 15, 2026, targeting suspected drug trafficking activities.

The first operation occurred on February 13, when police stopped a vehicle on the Lekanti-Kute road and found 48 compressed parcels of substances believed to be Indian hemp. The driver and his assistant were immediately taken into custody.

On February 14, police raided a location in Tsikata near Ahamansu and discovered 166 similar parcels hidden inside bags and sacks. Three suspects were arrested during that raid while a fourth person named Korsi Akpavi escaped and is still being sought.

The final operation on February 15 involved stopping a truck at Bodada that contained a large concealed compartment holding 1,482 compressed parcels of suspected narcotics. During this arrest, the driver allegedly offered police GH¢80,000 in bribe money, which officers refused before detaining him and his passenger.

Police have confirmed that seven suspects are currently in custody in connection with the narcotics interceptions and are urging the public to provide credible information that could help capture the escaped suspect.

Efforts to curb drug trafficking in the region are ongoing as the Ghana Police Service continues its investigations.
