Police Arrest Gang Of Notorious Phone Snatchers Along Achimota Forest Stretch

Personnel of the Ghana Police Service have arrested several suspected members of a notorious group of phone snatchers who have been terrorising commuters along the Achimota Forest overhead stretch in Accra.
The operation was carried out following numerous complaints from motorists and passengers who said the suspects regularly targeted people’s mobile phones as they waited in traffic or drove under the forest stretch. Video clips and posts on social media had shown some of the alleged snatchers in action, grabbing phones and fleeing on foot.
According to police reports, the arrests happened after intelligence led officers to key locations where the suspected snatchers were believed to be operating. The suspects were taken into custody by the Ghana Police Service, who are now questioning them as part of ongoing efforts to stop the rising number of phone snatching incidents along that busy road.
The Achimota Forest stretch has been a hotspot for mobile phone snatching, particularly in areas where traffic slows down and commuters are vulnerable. Drivers and passengers have repeatedly sounded alarms online, urging law enforcement to intervene and protect road users.
Officials from the police were reported to be reviewing the cases against the suspects. They also called on members of the public to remain vigilant, provide any useful information, and to immediately report suspicious behaviour so that similar criminal activity can be prevented.
This development comes as part of broader efforts by the Ghana Police Service to reduce street crime across the capital, improve public safety, and reassure residents and commuters who have been anxious about the repeated phone thefts that have occurred along major traffic routes.
