People In Ghana Do Not Pay Much Attention To Female Musicians – Gyakie

Ghanaian singer Gyakie has shared her thoughts on the challenges female artistes face in the local music industry, stating that women in music often struggle to receive the same level of attention as their male counterparts.
According to the award winning musician, the Ghanaian music space tends to focus more on male performers, leaving female artistes with fewer opportunities for recognition and support. She explained that despite the presence of many talented women in the industry, their work does not always receive the attention it deserves.
Gyakie noted that the situation has created a gap where female musicians often have to work much harder to prove themselves and gain visibility. In her view, the industry environment makes it more difficult for women to break through and maintain consistent prominence.
The singer emphasised that although there are several gifted female artistes producing quality music, the overall support system in Ghana still appears to favour male performers. She suggested that audiences, industry stakeholders, and the media could do more to promote and support women in the music scene.
Despite the challenges, Gyakie remains optimistic about the future of women in Ghana’s music industry. She believes that with continued effort, collaboration, and growing recognition of female talent, the industry can gradually become more balanced.
The musician also encouraged female artistes to remain confident and committed to their craft, stressing that perseverance and unity among women in the industry could help change existing perceptions.
Gyakie, whose real name is Jackline Acheampong, gained widespread popularity after releasing hit songs such as Forever, which brought her international recognition and positioned her among the rising stars in African music.
Her comments have since sparked conversations among fans and industry observers about the need to provide greater support for female artistes and create a more inclusive music industry in Ghana.
