NPP’s Kwame Baffoe Nkansah Scholarship Allegation Triggers NIB Probe

President John Dramani Mahama has ordered the National Investigations Bureau (NIB) to investigate serious claims related to the award of overseas scholarships after remarks made on a Kumasi radio station sparked public concern. The probe follows comments by Kwame Baffoe Abronye, also known as Nkansah GH, a former Chief Executive Officer of the National Entrepreneurship and Innovation Programme (NEIP), who alleged that an individual paid money to secure a GH¢100,000 scholarship to study abroad.

The allegation was aired on Sompa 106.5 FM in Kumasi during a discussion about access to government scholarships and educational opportunities. Nkansah suggested that irregular practices, including payment for scholarship placement, were taking place, raising questions about fairness and transparency in the process. His comments drew widespread attention and prompted concerns among listeners, students and civil society groups.

In response, President Mahama described the claims as a matter of “grave public concern” given the government’s stated commitments to transparency and equal access in education. He directed the NIB to immediately investigate the allegations, determine the facts and identify any people involved. The bureau has been asked to report its findings to the presidency for further action, including whether any legal steps should follow.

The probe is ongoing, and no official conclusions have been released yet. The investigation aims to clarify whether the scholarship allegation has a factual basis and to ensure accountability and integrity in the administration of public scholarship funds.
