NIB Searches Former NEIP CEO’s Home Over Scholarship Sale Allegations

Officers of the National Intelligence Bureau (NIB) have conducted a search of the residence of Kofi Ofosu Nkansah, the former Chief Executive Officer of the National Entrepreneurship and Innovation Programme (NEIP), as part of ongoing investigations into allegations that government-sponsored scholarships were being sold for money.
Mr. Ofosu Nkansah’s lawyers confirmed that officials entered his home on February 10, 2026, saying the search was related to comments he made during a radio discussion in which he alleged that some individuals were paying for scholarships to study abroad. His legal team also stated that the officers could not present a valid search warrant when questioned.
Contrary to some reports circulating online, Mr. Ofosu Nkansah was not arrested, according to his counsel. They clarified that he voluntarily honoured an invitation by the NIB and has cooperated with investigators throughout the process by providing information relevant to the allegations.
The investigation began after President John Dramani Mahama directed the NIB to probe the claims, describing them as a matter of “grave public concern.” In a statement dated February 3, 2026, the Office of the President said the intelligence agency should verify Mr. Ofosu Nkansah’s allegations, identify any individuals involved, and submit its findings directly to the President for possible action.
Mr. Ofosu Nkansah said on Sompa 106.5 FM that some people, including members of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), had paid sums as high as GH¢100,000 to secure government scholarships for overseas study. However, he noted that he did not know whether the scholarships were being sold through the Ghana Scholarship Secretariat, the Ghana Education Trust Fund (GETFund), or any other state agency.
The president-ordered inquiry has drawn public attention to concerns over transparency and fairness in the allocation of state-sponsored educational opportunities. Findings from the investigation are expected to be submitted to the presidency for further consideration.
