MC Portfolio Criticizes Daddy Lumba’s Funeral

Ghanaian media personality MC Portfolio has expressed disappointment with how Daddy Lumba’s funeral was conducted. He believes the ceremony did not meet the expectations for a figure of the legendary musician’s stature.

MC Portfolio said Daddy Lumba deserved more recognition from the state. He noted that the late singer’s contributions to Ghanaian music and culture warranted stronger government involvement and a more organized official ceremony. While he respects the family’s authority over funeral arrangements, he felt the lack of state presence was noticeable.

The funeral faced legal challenges in the days leading up to the event. Members of Daddy Lumba’s maternal family obtained a court injunction to stop the proceedings, claiming they were excluded from planning. The injunction was later lifted after the family failed to meet a financial requirement, allowing the funeral to proceed.

Despite these challenges and heavy rains, hundreds of fans gathered in Kumasi to honor Daddy Lumba’s legacy. They sang and danced to his music, showing their love and appreciation. However, MC Portfolio and others feel the official arrangements could have been more dignified and better structured.

Public reaction is mixed. Many celebrated the life of the music legend, while others agreed with MC Portfolio that the funeral fell short of expectations. His comments have sparked a wider conversation about how Ghana honors its cultural icons.
