KOKA Faces Online Backlash After ‘Salary’ Comment To NIB Officer

Entertainment personality and political communicator KOKA has been criticised online after a video clip showed him engaging in a tense exchange with an officer from the National Investigations Bureau (NIB), during which he made comments about salary levels that many social media users found inappropriate or disrespectful.

The brief confrontation, which took place amid ongoing attention on the arrest of former National Entrepreneurship and Innovation Programme (NEIP) CEO Kofi Ofosu Nkansah, captured KOKA telling the NIB officer something to the effect of “even the educated ones who work with their brains cry …” in reference to salary. Critics online said his remark was insensitive and unnecessary in the context of a serious matter involving a detained individual.

KOKA, who is also known for his involvement with the New Patriotic Party and work as a creative entrepreneur, often shares his commentary on political and social issues. Some of his supporters defended his right to speak freely, while others argued that making light of salary differences during a confrontation with an officer was inappropriate and could distract from the more pressing issue of the NEIP chief’s situation.

The controversy surrounding KOKA’s remarks comes as the case involving former NEIP boss Kofi Ofosu Nkansah continues to attract national attention. Nkansah was arrested by the NIB over comments made about alleged irregularities in the award of scholarships abroad. His detainment has drawn widespread public debate about process and transparency, with some politicians and commentators questioning the approach taken by security authorities.

Social media posts about KOKA’s comments have prompted varied reactions, with some users calling for him to apologise and others suggesting that online critics are overreacting. The exchange has added another layer to the broader discussion about public figures, accountability and conduct online.
