Joe Mettle Announces He Will Sit Out The 2026 Telecel Ghana Music Awards

Ghanaian gospel musician Joe Mettle has revealed that he will not participate in the 2026 Telecel Ghana Music Awards (TGMAs), choosing to take a planned break from the annual event this year. Mettle confirmed that he has spoken with the TGMA organisers and that his absence is a temporary decision rather than a permanent departure from the awards scheme.
The award-winning singer-songwriter told Hitz FM that he will not submit music for nomination or be involved in any activities connected to the 2026 awards, explaining that he will be unavailable on the scheduled date of this year’s ceremony. He emphasised that the decision was made with mutual understanding between him and the award organisers and should not be interpreted as anything beyond a break for this one edition.
Mettle, who has been a consistent and influential figure in Ghana’s gospel music scene and a regular presence at past Ghana Music Awards ceremonies, made clear that his focus is simply on rest and reflection this year. When asked whether his break might continue beyond 2026, he said the decision applies only to this year and that he prefers to revisit future participation later.
Fans and industry watchers have noted that his absence will be felt at this year’s event, given his track record of nominations and performances, but many have also expressed support for his choice to prioritise personal time and manage his schedule in a way that works for him.
