Good Governance Group Petitions President Mahama To Sack Randy Abbey As COCOBOD CEO

A civil society organisation known as the Good Governance Advocacy Group Ghana (GGAGG) has formally petitioned President John Dramani Mahama to dismiss Dr Randy Abbey from his position as Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Cocoa Board (COCOBOD).
In the petition dated February 9, 2026, the group accused Dr Abbey of gross incompetence, arrogance and intimidation in his leadership of COCOBOD. They say his management style and decisions have negatively impacted the operations of the state institution and undermined confidence in the cocoa sector.
The activists argued that the persistent delays in payments to cocoa farmers and Licensed Buying Companies (LBCs) are evidence of poor leadership under Dr Abbey’s tenure. According to them, these delays have left farmers in financial hardship and weakened trust in COCOBOD’s ability to effectively manage the industry.
The petition urged the President to exercise his authority to remove the COCOBOD boss as a way to restore integrity and good governance to the cocoa sector. The group also called for improved accountability and transparency in COCOBOD’s operations.
The demand to sack Dr Abbey comes against the backdrop of ongoing public criticism over how COCOBOD has handled sector challenges, especially regarding outstanding debts owed to cocoa farmers and buyers. Observers say the petition highlights broader concerns about leadership and performance in one of Ghana’s most significant agricultural institutions.
