Education Minister Haruna Iddrisu And Deputy Minister Mohammed Adams Sukparu Airlifted After Tumu Road Accident

A dramatic video circulating online shows Ghana’s Minister for Education, Haruna Iddrisu, and the Deputy Minister for Communications and Digital Technology, Mohammed Adams Sukparu, being airlifted from the scene of a serious road accident on the Bolgatanga-Tumu Highway. The footage captures emergency responders moving both government officials into an air ambulance shortly after the crash occurred on Thursday, February 12, 2026 while they were travelling on official duty.
The ministers were part of a convoy heading to the Upper West Region to attend the 40th anniversary celebrations of the Tumu College of Education and Jahan College of Education when their vehicle was involved in a collision between Banu and Kunchokor. Authorities say the crash was triggered when another motorist crossed into the convoy’s path and the driver lost control amid heavy dust on that stretch of road.
After the accident, both Iddrisu and Sukparu were stabilised by medical teams at the scene before being airlifted first to Wa for urgent care. They are now en route to Accra for further medical attention, having been transferred by air to ensure they receive specialised treatment.
A source close to the situation told the Ghana News Agency that the ministers and other occupants of the convoy were in stable condition after the crash and were receiving care from health professionals.
The Education Minister’s driver also sustained injuries in the accident and is reported to be undergoing treatment. Authorities have thanked emergency responders and medical personnel for their timely support at the scene.
The airlift and dramatic rescue have drawn significant attention on social media, where citizens have shared the video and wished both officials a swift recovery
