Dr Bomfeh Jnr Says Prosecution Of Ken Ofori-Atta Must Follow Due Process

Dr Kwabena Bomfeh Jnr, a lecturer and political analyst, has commented on the ongoing legal situation involving former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta and urged that any prosecution should be based on legal diligence and not driven by political noise. Dr Bomfeh made these remarks while speaking on the JoyNews Newsfile programme on Saturday, January 24, 2026. His comments respond to increasing public pressure and demonstrations calling for swift action and for Mr Ofori-Atta to be brought back to Ghana to face prosecution.

According to Dr Bomfeh, a successful prosecution depends on patience, strict adherence to legal procedures, and thorough work by legal professionals rather than simplified public calls for action. He stressed that the justice system must be respected and that focusing on political rhetoric can undermine proper legal handling of the case. He said that reducing the legal process to slogans about having the former minister physically present in the country misrepresents how justice systems normally operate.

Dr Bomfeh emphasised that accountability should be measured by whether the legal processes are being followed correctly and whether formal responses to charges have been submitted by Mr Ofori-Atta and his legal team. He noted the importance of understanding how evidence and responses are managed within the courts and warned against portraying the exercise of constitutional rights as attempts to avoid justice.

He added that public discourse and calls for prosecution should focus on strengthening legal institutions to ensure that investigations, extradition procedures, and prosecutions are handled professionally and within the law.
