Nigerian music star Davido has publicly accused a show promoter of trying to extort money from him and harm his reputation.
In a statement shared online, Davido said the promoter — known locally as a “showboy” — demanded a large sum of money in exchange for helping with event arrangements. According to the singer, when he refused to pay, the promoter began spreading negative claims about him. The singer described this behaviour as unfair and harmful.
Davido explained that he has always tried to work professionally with event organisers and promoters, but that this experience left him disappointed. He said the showboy’s actions were meant to pressure him and that he chose to speak out so fans and the public would know the truth from his perspective.
The singer also urged other artists and professionals in the entertainment industry to stay alert to situations where people might try to take advantage of their names or reputation. He emphasised the importance of dealing with trustworthy teams and clear agreements when planning events.
So far, the promoter in question has not publicly responded to the allegations. Fans and followers have reacted online, with many expressing support for Davido’s decision to address the issue openly, while others are calling for both sides to present evidence and resolve the matter responsibly.
