CLOGSAG Leadership Boycotts National Labour Commission Meeting

The leadership of the Civil and Local Government Staff Association of Ghana (CLOGSAG) reportedly refused to attend a scheduled meeting with the National Labour Commission (NLC) amid their ongoing nationwide strike.

The meeting, which took place on March 11, 2026, was convened by the NLC to discuss the issues surrounding the industrial action and find possible ways to resolve the dispute between the association and the government. However, leaders of the association failed to honour the invitation, preventing the discussions from taking place.

According to the Executive Secretary of the National Labour Commission, Bernice Welbeck, the commission could not proceed with deliberations because the association’s leadership did not appear and the strike action was still ongoing.

Welbeck explained that under labour procedures, the commission cannot fully address the substantive concerns of a dispute when one party is on strike. As a result, the meeting could not continue without the participation of the CLOGSAG leadership.

The NLC had earlier directed the association to suspend the strike and appear before the commission to discuss their concerns. The commission has also declared the ongoing industrial action illegal and asked the association to immediately call it off.

Following the boycott, the commission has scheduled another meeting for Wednesday, March 18, 2026, in the hope that the association’s leadership will attend and engage in dialogue aimed at resolving the standoff.

Officials say the next meeting will provide an opportunity for both sides to address the issues behind the strike and explore possible solutions.

The ongoing strike by CLOGSAG has already begun affecting operations in several government institutions across the country, raising concerns about potential disruptions in public administration if the dispute remains unresolved.
