Afenyo-Markin Says Former President Kufuor Urged NPP To Stay United And Focus On Prayers

Ghana’s Minority Leader in Parliament, Alexander Afenyo-Markin, has revealed details of a lengthy discussion he held with former President John Agyekum Kufuor and the message Kufuor delivered to members of the New Patriotic Party (NPP). In a conversation that lasted more than two hours, Kufuor’s key advice was that the party must prioritise unity and turn to prayer to strengthen togetherness and purpose.

Afenyo-Markin, speaking to journalists and party supporters after the meeting, said Kufuor emphasised the importance of staying united across all levels of the party and reaffirming shared values that have historically guided the NPP’s success. He noted that whenever the party is divided, the country can suffer political setbacks, and Kufuor wants members to avoid internal conflicts that could weaken their influence.

The Minority Leader explained that Kufuor also encouraged party members to seek spiritual strength and pray together, believing this would foster cohesion and help the NPP navigate both internal and national challenges. According to Afenyo-Markin, Kufuor’s counsel reflects his long-standing view that moral grounding and collective resolve are essential in politics.

Afenyo-Markin’s comments come at a time when the NPP is under pressure from opposition critics and facing internal expectations ahead of future elections. By sharing Kufuor’s charge, he said, he hopes to rally the party’s rank and file around a message of unity, shared purpose and strategic calm.
