Accra High Court Moves Daddy Lumba Celebration of Life Injunction Case To April 23

The Accra High Court has once again delayed its ruling in the injunction case that could determine whether a planned Celebration of Life event for the late highlife legend Nana Kwame Lumba, popularly known as Daddy Lumba, can go ahead as scheduled. The hearing has been adjourned to April 23, 2026, leaving the fate of the ceremony uncertain for now.
The Celebration of Life event was organised by some members of Daddy Lumba’s family, including his sister Ernestina Fosuh, evangelist Papa Shee, and former wife Akosua Serwaa, with dates initially set for March 28 and March 29, 2026 in Accra. However, the announcement sparked legal opposition from the late musician’s family head, Abusuapanin Kofi Owusu, also known as Tupac, who filed an injunction at the High Court seeking to stop the gathering.
During proceedings on March 25, 2026, the court listened to arguments from both sides but did not issue a final ruling. Instead, Justice Halimah El‑Alawa Abdul Baasit presiding over the matter opted to postpone further consideration of the suit until late April to allow more time for deliberation. This adjournment means that preparations for the event remain on hold pending the next hearing.
After the session, lawyers involved in the case explained that the additional time will help the court examine customary and legal issues raised by both parties, considering his cultural practices and procedural requirements before reaching a decision. Supporters of the Celebration of Life event, as well as critics opposed to its timing and organisation, will be watching closely as the next court date approaches.
The situation highlights ongoing tensions within Daddy Lumba’s extended family about how best to honour the late music icon, whose influence on Ghanaian highlife music remains profound. Born Charles Kwadwo Fosu in 1964 and passing away in 2025, Daddy Lumba’s legacy continues to inspire fans and musicians across Ghana and beyond.
