Lawyer For Akosua Serwaa Says He Has Been Threatened Over Appeal In Daddy Lumba Case

William Kusi, lawyer representing Akosua Serwaa in the ongoing legal battle over the estate and widowhood rights of late highlife musician Daddy Lumba, has revealed that he and his family have been targeted with serious threats because of the case. He described the personal toll of handling the high‑profile dispute during an interview.

Kusi said the threats began after he took up the case and indicated his intention to challenge a court ruling that recognised both Akosua Serwaa and another woman, Priscilla Ofori (Odo Broni), as surviving spouses of Daddy Lumba. He said anonymous callers and text messages included intimidation, blackmail attempts, and warnings designed to pressure him to withdraw from representing Serwaa.

He explained that some messages allegedly threaten to release compromising private images of him unless he steps away from the case, but more disturbing are threats directed at his wife’s safety. Individuals behind the messages have purportedly vowed harm against his spouse if he continues with the appeal, forcing him to think seriously about the safety of his family.

Kusi described the situation as frightening and unacceptable, noting that no legal professional should face intimidation for fulfilling their duties. He said the threats have made him consider withdrawing from the case to protect his wife and children, although doing so would undermine his personal and professional integrity.

The case revolves around a challenge to a High Court decision regarding which women should be legally recognised as the surviving spouses of the late musician and who has the right to participate in funeral rites and related matters. Akosua Serwaa is pursuing an appeal after her initial suit was dismissed, and Kusi’s disclosures have sparked calls for security agencies to investigate the threats and ensure the safety of legal practitioners involved in contentious disputes.
